Moist Favorite Creative Designers Part 3: Jessica Hische
3 min readNo Designer Does More
Some designers are prolific. Then there’s Jessica Hische.
She’s a lettering artist, illustrator, children’s book author, SaaS founder, design coach, speaker, and brick-and-mortar shop owner — twice over. Somewhere in the middle of all of that, she’s also managed to build one of the most recognizable bodies of work in the industry.
So, naturally, she’s one of our favorite creative designers.

A Kind of Work that is Always Evolving
Hische has never really been the type to sit still creatively. Her work stretches across lettering, illustration, branding, publishing, products, and education, but somehow it all feels unmistakably hers.
Most recently, she created the Muse logo for Meta AI, a project that has sparked plenty of conversation in the design world. Whatever your feelings are about AI, we’re excited that Jessica got the opportunity to put her spin on a project like this.
And honestly, that’s part of what makes her work so interesting. Jessica has spent years putting an incredible amount of personality and humanity into her work. One AI project doesn’t erase that history.

Typography with a Pulse
The fingerprint across Hische’s work is typography that feels alive.
Her lettering is expressive, playful, welcoming, swirly, and just a little bit cute. Letters don’t simply sit on a page. They bend, stretch, bounce, and interact with each other like they have personalities of their own.
That’s what makes her work so fun to look at. Even when the project changes, that sense of character stays.
There’s a warmth to it that feels distinctly human.

Perfect, Unfortunately
We actually got the chance to hire Jessica for a lettering project once, which was a pretty big deal for us.
Unfortunately, she did the project too well.
It came back so perfect that there were no edits. No back-and-forth. No revisions. No excuse to keep hanging out with her.
As far as problems go, that’s a pretty good one to have.
Still, getting to work with someone whose work we’ve admired for years was a pretty cool experience. And seeing that level of craft up close only made us appreciate it more.

And Still Very Human
There’s a reason Jessica Hische’s work stands out.
It isn’t just technically impressive. It feels like someone made it.
In an industry that can sometimes lean toward polished, perfect, and interchangeable, Hische’s work has always had a pulse. Her lettering has quirks. Her illustrations have personality. Her typography feels like it’s having a good time.
That human quality is probably the biggest reason we like looking at everything she makes.
Jessica Hische is an incredibly talented designer, and if you’re not familiar with her work yet, you should be.
More creative designers on the way.
