Moist Favorite Creative Agencies Part 12: Brethren Design Co.
4 min read
The Brothers Behind the Beautifully Weird
Some creative agencies have a style you recognize instantly. Brethren Design Co. has the kind of portfolio that makes you stop scrolling, look a little closer, and wonder how one team can come up with so many wonderfully weird ideas.
Led by actual brothers, this branding and illustration agency knows how to bring personality to just about anything. Their work spans playful characters, unexpected concepts, and the kind of creative details that make a brand feel like a world of its own. There’s a sense of humor running through it all, but the execution is just as impressive as the ideas themselves.
And if there’s one project that captures what makes these guys so good, it’s their work for Bread & Butter Pickleball.
When the Packaging Becomes the Best Part
Keep the pickleball paddles. Give us the illustrated boxes.
Bread & Butter Pickleball has aliens, yetis, individually themed paddles, and enough personality to make a simple game feel like a full-blown creative universe. But somehow, the packaging is what really steals the show.
From the tennis trash talk to a wiffle ball ray gun, every piece feels like an opportunity to have a little fun. The copy, the illustrations, the tiny characters, even the shoes all get the same thoughtful treatment. Nothing feels like an afterthought, and that’s what makes the project so good.
The packaging isn’t just there to protect what’s inside; it’s part of the experience. Brethren takes something that could easily be overlooked and turns it into one of the most memorable parts of the entire brand. It’s a great example of what happens when you give every touchpoint the same creative attention instead of saving all the fun for the main product.

Sasquatches, Ski Gear, and Seriously Good Illustration
Then there’s Waggle Golf, where the brothers bring that same energy to the golf world. Case in point: a sassy Sasquatch in a tracksuit, skiing like he has absolutely nothing to prove.
It’s weird in the best possible way.
Brethren’s illustrations have a distinct sense of humor without feeling like they’re trying too hard. The characters have personality, the concepts are memorable, and there’s a level of detail that makes you want to keep looking. It’s the kind of work that makes a creative director immediately want to get these guys on a project.
And that’s before you get to their work with Netflix.

The Kind of Work That Makes You a Little Jealous
Brethren’s portfolio has plenty of those wait, they did that too? moments. Their work with Netflix only adds to the list, with project after project that makes you appreciate just how much range these brothers have.
It’s enough to make a fellow creative a little sick with envy. The good, supportive kind, obviously.
What makes Brethren so exciting is that their creativity doesn’t stop at the obvious deliverables. They find opportunities to inject personality into the smallest details, build entire worlds around a brand, and make the experience of interacting with a product just as memorable as the product itself.
That’s a pretty great reminder that branding doesn’t have to stop at a logo or a color palette. Sometimes the most exciting part is what happens when you take the idea a little further than expected.
And honestly, if this series has taught us anything, it’s that there are ridiculously talented creative teams out there we might never have discovered otherwise. Brethren Design Co. is officially one of them.
More creative agencies to come.
